Modular DA&C System EU-3000

The modular DA&C system EU-3000 has been developed during the year 2007. The TEDIA® company provided the hardware development including the development and debugging of the communication protocol and the firmware for particulal units; the software support at the PC side has been realised by the company INOVA Praha s.r.o.

The DA&C system EU-3000 consist of the set of I/O units and a rack control unit, built in the 19" rack and the data concentration unit connected to one or more PCs for the data processing.

The data concentration unit is designed as a central unit managing the timing of the whole system and the transfres between all I/O units and all PCs. Fast synchronous serial interface with the speed of 25.6 MB/s has been chosen for realizing the data transfer between the I/O units. The data transfer to the PC is realised through standard gigabit ethernet interface. All interfaces at the data concentration unit operates synchronously using the sampling frequency of max. 10 kHz.

The data concentration units currently supports eight serial and eight ethernet interfaces. If we consider the set of 8 racks fitted with 15 units providing four analog inputs, this system allows the user to measure 480 analog channels. By analogy, it is possible to achieve measuring of up to 960 analog outputs or 1920 relay outputs using the currently developed units. The data processing of such amount of data may be distributed to eight computers; every computer may obtain any part of the input or output data stream (the whole I/O data amount available for every computer is limited by a single ethernet frame).

The data concentration unit operates as a 16-port memory with the data throughput of more than 200 MB/s, ensuring:

Asynchronously to the transfers mentioned above, the ethernet frames transferred from the master computers are processed.

The system provides also a service ethernet interface that is independent on the mentioned data transfers, allowing the user to inspect the system behavior in background. The interface allows the user to access the status regiters of the I/O units and the data concentration unit. This interface is also intended for service configuration of the units (FPGA firmware update, FIR filter coefficients configuration, etc.).

While the concentrator determines the whole system efficiency by its data throughput, the I/O units influence the quality of the signal processing and generating.

The I/O units are realized as standard eurocards (100x160 mm), connected to the rack control unit using special passive backplane providing 15 serial channels (one for every I/O unit) with the data througput of 6.4 Mbit/s.

The analog input units provide 24-bit ADC with anti-aliasing filters with the fixed sampling frequency of 100 kHz. The output data frequency is configurable in the range of 1-10 kHz and is realised using the FIR filters. The FPGA is utilized for realising the FIR filters and for calibration. The units also provide an independent service interface for updating the FPGA firmware, FIR coefficients and the calibration constants.

Other I/O units utilize the identical core with the FPGA, microcontroller, service and data interface. According to the unit type the units are fitted with 16-bit isolated DAC, isloated digital inputs, power relays, isolated RS-422 input circuits with additional 32-bit bi-directional counterd or programmable input logic for IRC counters.

Complex data processing at the PC side is realized by INOVA Praha s.r.o., as a part of a software solution for measuring, control and visualization of the processes. TEDIA® company as a manufacturer of the data concentrator and I/O units has provided the software for the unit configuration.
